How to obtain the porcini mushroom picking permit in Arcidosso?

To pick porcini mushrooms in Arcidosso, you must obtain the tourist authorization from the Tuscany Region : the permit is not requested from the town hall. If you do not reside in Tuscany, pay 15 € for one day, 40 € for 7 consecutive days or 100 € for one year, via the regional IRIS platform or by bank transfer to the Region. Indicate the details of the person who will go picking; in the reason field, write “Raccolta funghi”, then add the chosen date or week. The ricevuta — the payment receipt — serves as the authorization: keep it on you with an ID and make a backup copy.

If you reside in Tuscany, you do not need authorization to pick in your municipality of residence; for Arcidosso if you live elsewhere, the applicable rates are 13 € for six months or 25 € for one year, with a possible reduction for certain residents of mountain municipalities. The regional permit is valid throughout Tuscany, but additional rules may apply in parks or protected areas. On site, the general limit is 3 kg per day and per person. Picking is allowed from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset; take a rigid, ventilated basket, no plastic bag. Check for any local restrictions before your outing.

My advice: sort out the permit before putting on your boots; in the woods, you'll have better things to do than search your phone for the receipt!
