Without a car, you can connect the island's three villages with the bus IG1, which runs between Giglio Porto, Giglio Castello and Giglio Campese. Allow about 15 minutes to Castello and 30 minutes to Campese from the port. The one-way ticket costs 2,50 € ; it is valid for 30 minutes, and the on-board fare is higher. The schedules change depending on the period and the day: check them before leaving, especially in the off-season or if you need to catch a ferry. In summer, the service is increased and takes into account boat arrivals and departures.
To reach a cove or a beach that is not served by the bus, you can take a taxi or, depending on the destination and sea conditions, a taxi-boat. It is better to book a taxi in advance in high season. Walking is possible, but the roads are steep and the distances deceptive: the island has about 22 km of paved roads, and the trips between villages are not flat walks. By bike, the climbs also require good physical condition; an electric-assist bike can help, without solving access to all the beaches. In practice, the bus is suitable for getting from one village to another, but to explore several beaches in the same day, you will depend more on the schedules, taxis or boats.
