How to get around on the Giglio Island?

On the island of Giglio, the simplest way is to take the bus between Giglio Porto, Giglio Castello and Giglio Campese : the line serves these three villages, with about 14 minutes to Castello and 27 minutes to Campese from the port. The one-way ticket costs around 2,50 € ; bought on board, it can be more expensive. Timetables change according to the season and the day of the week, and buses run less frequently in the off-season: check them before planning a connection or a late outing.

For less accessible beaches, the bus is not always enough: Cannelle is reached on foot or by taxi, while some coves can be served by water taxi in season. The roads are hilly; cycling therefore requires some effort, especially in the heat. A car is generally not necessary to connect the villages, and access for non-residents' vehicles is subject to restrictions at certain times, especially in summer. If you come with your own vehicle, check the current rules before booking the ferry.

On Giglio, trying to check everything off in the same day means risking seeing nothing but timetables! Leave yourself some time to stroll around Castello: the island is best savoured without rally mode.
