To avoid the bulk of the crowd at the Cascate del Mulino, come on a weekday, outside summer, and arrive early, ideally before 8 a.m.. Weekends and the June to September are the busiest; in October or in spring, you'll generally have a better chance of enjoying the pools with a bit of space. The waterfalls are free and accessible at any time, but that doesn't guarantee peace and quiet: the site is very well known and the pools are small.
If you can't come early, try the end of the day instead, keeping in mind that crowds can remain heavy in fine weather. Above all, avoid sunny weekends and public holidays; also check the weather conditions before setting off. Parking is available near the site, but spaces can be scarce during busy periods: don't count on arriving in the late morning to park easily. Wear shoes with good grip, as the rocks are slippery, and bring a towel. Swimming is free, with no reservation; however, if you're really looking for tranquility, it's better to opt for an off-season visit rather than hoping to find the pools empty in the height of summer.
