The reviews of the Cascate del Mulino are rather positive about the setting and the hot water pools, but often come back to one major flaw: the crowds. Visitors appreciate the terraced travertine pools and the free access; the water is generally reported to be between 35 and 37 °C. On the other hand, on weekends and in summer, especially from June to September, the place can be packed, to the point of making swimming less relaxing than hoped. Arriving early does not guarantee being alone.
Reviews also mention the sulphur smell — normal, but quite strong —, the slippery rocks and the uneven bottoms: bring water shoes, not flip-flops. The site remains natural, with few amenities on site; the nearby car park is paid and a few minutes' walk away, while showers and lockers may involve extra fees. Some reviews mention litter or insects in the water: this is not a developed swimming pool and the condition can vary depending on how busy it is. For a quieter visit, aim for a weekday in spring or autumn. Allow about 1 to 2 hours on site, swimming included; if you're looking for supervised facilities and comfortable changing rooms, the waterfalls may disappoint you.
