How far is Gavorrano from the sea?

From the town of Gavorrano, allow about 17 to 20 km by road to Follonica, i.e. around 20 to 25 minutes by car outside heavy traffic. It's the simplest landmark for reaching the sea: the beach is in Follonica, on the edge of the gulf. The exact distance varies depending on whether you start from the historic center or a hamlet of the municipality, which covers a fairly large area.

Gavorrano is therefore in the hinterland, not by the water: for a beach day, you need to plan a round trip and, in summer, a bit more time to get around and find a spot near the coast. Without a car, check the local schedules before leaving, as connections and transfers can make the trip less convenient. The landscape and the position of the village are explained by its roots in the Colline Metallifere, rather than on the coastal plain.
