How far is Arcidosso from the sea?

Arcidosso is about 50 km from the coast as the crow flies, and it takes nearly 70 km by road to reach Marina di Grosseto — which is generally 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 by car, depending on the route and traffic. Arcidosso is perched on the slopes of Monte Amiata, inland: so it is not a base from which you can reach the beach in a few minutes.

For Castiglione della Pescaia, another possible access point to the coast, is about 80 km by road. The last few kilometers are not necessarily fast: mountain roads and passing through villages lengthen the journey. In summer, also allow extra time for traffic near the beaches and for parking.

In practice, if you stay in Arcidosso, a day at the sea is entirely doable, but a car will make getting around much easier. Without a car, check connections via Grosseto before booking: the journey may take longer and depend on bus schedules. Here you mainly enjoy a mountain stay, with the coast as an excursion rather than an immediate neighbor.

The contrast between the mountain air of the Amiata and a day on the coast is precisely what makes the stay interesting; save the beach for a real getaway rather than an improvised detour.
