Yes, Follonica is a good destination if you're mainly looking for easy seaside holidays, with a large sandy beach, a pine grove and services within easy reach. The seafront is well suited to families, and you'll find both equipped beaches and free stretches. On the other hand, if you dream of a picturesque historic centre or a very cultural stay, the town may seem rather ordinary to you: its main appeal is the coast.
In summer, especially in July and August, expect larger crowds and a lively seaside atmosphere; June and September are often quieter for enjoying the beach. Pratoranieri, about 5 km from the centre, can be reached on foot or by bike via stretches of promenade and cycle path. Another practical advantage: the Follonica train station is in town, near the sea, so a car is not essential for your stay. With a car, you can also head towards Massa Marittima, about 20 minutes. And if you go there during the carnival period, the entertainment takes on a different tone: the Follonica Carnival is an event deeply rooted in local life.
