How do I get from Giglio Porto to Giglio Castello?

to Giglio Porto à Giglio Castellothe simplest option is the island bus, which connects the port, the hilltop village and the beach of Campese. The trip follows a winding road of about 6 km and takes about fifteen minutes. Passages are more frequent in summer; outside the season, check the schedules as soon as you arrive at the port.

You can also get there by car or in scooterrented on the island or unloaded from the ferry, or by taxi from the port. Giglio Castello, the walled town at the center, is best explored on foot: park outside the walls, on the squares at the village entrance, which fill up quickly in August. Hikers can climb via the old mule tracks, but the climb is long, steep and exposed to the sun.

The village sits at about 400 m above sea level : it is cooler there than at the port, and the view stretches across both sides of the island. For a day without a car, go up to Castello in the morning, have lunch there, then head back down by bus to Campese for the beach.
