Comment on noteThe wine
Today I invite you to discover a gem that embodies the authentic spirit of Val d'Arno di Sopra. This wine, the Torrione from Petrolo, is a true immersion into a still-preserved Tuscan terroir, an encounter with complexity and elegance.
The Petrolo estate, nestled in the Val d'Arno di Sopra region, is a place where the winemaking tradition is carried on with passion. It is here, in the heart of this little-known appellation, that the Torrione is born. This wine comes from a harmonious blend: Sangiovese, Tuscany's emblematic grape variety, dominates at 80%, complemented by 15% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This combination gives the Torrione a unique personality, combining the robustness of Sangiovese with the roundness and structure brought by the Bordeaux grape varieties.
Its deep ruby color already promises you a beautiful visual experience. On the nose, you will be charmed by a rich bouquet of ripe red fruits, subtle spicy notes, and evocative touches of damp earth and tobacco, which blossom magnificently over time. On the palate, the Torrione reveals itself to be balanced, with beautiful acidity and well-integrated tannins, signs of excellent aging potential. Its fermentation in steel tanks and its aging in wood, generally between 12 and 18 months in French oak barriques, contribute to its complexity and its persistence on the finish, leaving a pleasant sensation of completion.
To fully appreciate all the facets of the Torrione, I advise you to decant it a few hours before serving. It is a wine that calls for frank and generous flavors. Imagine it alongside a red meat roast, a simmered game dish, or a platter of aged cheeses. It is the perfect companion for a convivial evening, a moment of sharing where the flavors of Tuscany invite themselves to your table. The Torrione from Petrolo is much more than a wine; it is an invitation to explore the authenticity and richness of a Tuscan terroir that I am particularly fond of.
