Comment on noteThe wine
I invite you to discover a wine that embodies balance and presence without ever overdoing it. It is a proposition that reveals the typicity of Bolgheri with remarkable finesse, a true gem for palates in search of authenticity.
This Matarocchio 2021 is the work of the Tenuta Guado al Tasso, an estate owned by the Marchesi Antinori, nestled in the heart of Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. This appellation, Bolgheri DOC Superiore, is renowned for its exceptional red wines. This cru is made from a single grape variety, Cabernet Franc, which finds a particularly harmonious expression here. The estate benefits from a unique terroir, influenced by the proximity of the Tyrrhenian Sea, offering ideal conditions for grape ripening.
From the very first glance, you will be seduced by its intense color. On the nose, this wine unfolds a set of aromas of red and black fruits, accompanied by light spicy notes and a subtle floral accent, sometimes evoking white spices, aromatic herbs and tobacco. On the palate, it reveals itself as structured, with tannins that are present but perfectly integrated, and a lovely sapidity that sustains the tasting. Fermentation and maturation take place in barriques, with a rigorous selection of barrels, and the wine then ages for 18 months in French oak barriques, which gives it its measured complexity and depth.
This Matarocchio Bolgheri DOC Superiore is an ideal companion for the table. I recommend it with red meats, game, grilled dishes or aged cheeses. It also pairs very well with mushroom-based dishes or rustic sauces. Serve it at a cool, but not cold, temperature, around 16-18 °C, to fully appreciate its harmony. You can enjoy it after a brief period of bottle aging, but it has excellent staying power for those who prefer to wait a few years. It is a perfect wine for convivial occasions, an invitation to explore the richness of this Tuscan denomination.
