Vino novello is the Italian primeur wine, the equivalent of our Beaujolais nouveau. It is bottled only a few weeks after the harvest and arrives on the tables in late October, early November. In Maremma, it is an occasion to celebrate the end of the harvest, often around roasted chestnuts. Expect a young, fruity and light wine, not a great age-worthy cru. It is a seasonal experience, an immersion in the local culture more than a complex oenological tasting. Don't look for it in the middle of summer, there won't be any.
