When to see the sunset in Sorano?

À Sorano, arrive at the viewpoint 30 to 45 minutes before the official sunset time : it's the right moment to see the golden light settle on the tuff houses and the valley. In summer, the sun sets around 8:00 pm to 8:55 pm, depending on the period; in winter, rather around 4:40 pm–5:00 pm. The time changes every day, so check the one for your date.

To look at the village, try the San Rocco viewpoint, opposite the historic center. You can also enjoy the view from the terrace of the 6. Orsini fortress, if it is accessible at the time of your visit. A small nuance: in Sorano, the show is mainly that of the light coloring the tuff and the hills; the sun does not necessarily stand out well on the horizon, because the landscape is hilly.

Allow some extra time to reach your spot and settle in, especially if you don't know the alleys well. In autumn and spring, the light falls earlier than in summer: check the time for the day rather than relying on dinnertime. If the sky is overcast, the sunset can be quite discreet — the view remains, but the colors will be less pronounced.

In Sorano, don't pack up as soon as the sun has disappeared: the scenery can still change tone for a few moments, like a curtain falling in slow motion.
