What is meant by Tuscan Maremma? -> What does Tuscan Maremma mean?

The Tuscan Maremma, it is the part of the Maremma located in the south of the Tuscany, especially in the province of Grosseto, with an extension towards the south of the province of Livorno. It is neither a municipality nor a precise administrative boundary: the name refers to a geographical and cultural region, whose contours vary depending on the context. The Maremma, in the broad sense, also extends into the Latium.

The landscape is not limited to beaches: it includes the coastline, plains and marshes, but also hills and villages of the hinterland. Grosseto, Castiglione della Pescaia, Orbetello and Capalbio are well-known landmarks, without by themselves summing up the whole territory. Be careful not to confuse the Maremma with the the Maremma regional park : the park protects only part of it, over approximately 8 900 hectares, in the municipalities of Grosseto, Magliano in Toscana and Orbetello. In practice, if you are planning a stay, check the distances between your stops: "in the Maremma" can refer to places quite far apart from one another.

The Maremma is the kind of name that promises a getaway rather than a box to tick: leave some room for detours in your itinerary, they are part of the game.
