Where is Maremma in Italy?

The Maremma is located in the southwest of Tuscany, along the Tyrrhenian Sea, with Grosseto as its main landmark. It is not a province nor a municipality, but a geographical region: it mainly covers the province of Grosseto and also extends into northern Tuscany and northern Lazio, around Viterbo.

On the coast, you can locate the Maremma around Follonica, Castiglione della Pescaia, Grosseto, Orbetello and Capalbio, generally going from the Cecina area towards the Lazio border. It is not just about the seaside: the interior also includes villages such as Pitigliano and Manciano, in the hills. To find your way on a map, look for Grosseto: the part most often called "Tuscan Maremma" lies around the town, south of Siena and north of Rome.

Don't just draw a line of beaches on your map: the interior holds a completely different setting, with its hilltop villages that completely change the atmosphere. Keep a little space for it in your itinerary, you might well prefer this surprise to the parasols!
