What are the Etruscan ruins near Grosseto?

The two main Etruscan sites near Grosseto are Roselle and Vetulonia. 1. . At about 10 km north of Grosseto, Roselle is the easiest to reach: this ancient Etruscan town that became Roman retains a rampart, remains of dwellings and Roman monuments, including the forum and the amphitheater. The route is about 2 km and crosses uneven ground, with little shade; bring good shoes and water. Adult admission is 4 €. Opening hours vary by season, and a weather alert may cause the site to close.

Vetulonia, about 2. 20 to 30 km from Grosseto depending on the route, is worth the detour if you mainly want to see tombs and traces of the Etruscan town. The archaeological areas are scattered around the village; admission is free, but the Tomba del Diavolino II is currently listed as temporarily closed. To round out your visit without adding extra miles, the Archaeological and Art Museum of the Maremma, in the center of Grosseto, displays objects coming notably from Roselle and Vetulonia. If you choose only one site, pick Roselle for a more complete tour of the ruins; check the opening hours before setting out, especially in the off-season.
