Which museum to visit to understand Etruscan archaeology in Grosseto?

To understand Etruscan archaeology in Grosseto, go to the Museo Archeologico e d’Arte della Maremma (MAAM), piazza Baccarini 3, in the historic centre. Its tour occupies three floors and some forty rooms : you will see funerary objects from Vetulonia and Marsiliana, as well as pieces linked to Roselle, an Etruscan city that later became Roman. The museum helps to place these finds within the history of the Maremma, rather than presenting only the Etruscan civilization.

Expect around 1 h 30 to 2 h to take your time in the rooms. The tour also includes prehistoric, Roman and medieval collections, followed by a museum of sacred art: so if you are only interested in the Etruscans, you can make a more focused visit. Opening hours vary by season and the museum is generally closed on Mondays; check them before coming, as online information is not always consistent. To confirm, you can call +39 0564 488752.

The most interesting thing is not to look at the Etruscans as an isolated chapter: the Maremma also tells what came before and after. Keep a little curiosity for the counter-field, you curious little wild boar!
