What are the differences between Giglio Porto, Castello and Campese?

Giglio Porto is the most practical for disembarking and finding shops, restaurants and boats; Giglio Castello is the hilltop village, quiet and historic; Campese is the best choice if you want to stay near a large beach. The three have quite different atmospheres, but you can go from one to another by bus.

À Giglio Porto, you arrive by ferry and you can do everything on foot in the center. It's convenient without a car, but the atmosphere is livelier and more harbor-like, especially in summer. Giglio Castello, in the center of the island, is worth visiting for its alleys and ramparts; however, it is up on high ground, with slopes and stairs, and you won't find a beach right next to it.

Campese, on the west coast, is organized around the island's largest beach, with sand, beach establishments and free sections. It's more of a seaside resort, but less practical for taking the ferry or shopping than Porto. By bus, allow about 15 minutes between Porto and Castello, and 30 minutes to Campese ; timetables vary according to the season, so check them before choosing your accommodation if you plan to get around without a car.

Don't choose just with the map in front of your eyes: ask yourself instead where you would like to hang out after the day, by the water or in the alleys. It's almost two different vacations, little shoe included!
