À GavorranoIn , you can visit the old medieval village and above all discover the mining history of the area at Parc minier. In the narrow streets, look for the remains of the ramparts, the gates and the arches; the walk is short, but the village is small and does not on its own call for a long visit.
The mining site brings together the GeoMet, dedicated to mines and geology, a museum set up in a gallery, and the Teatro delle Rocce, set up in a former limestone quarry. The gallery visit is done with a guide; opening times and access may vary depending on the season, so check the conditions before setting off. The mine of Ravi-Marchi, another site of the park, can be visited by reservation. Allow about 18. 2 to 3 hours for the village and part of the park, more if you add a guided tour.
If you have time, the hamlets of Caldana and Giuncarico are also worth a stop for their narrow streets and old fortifications. Gavorrano is best suited if industrial history and hill landscapes interest you; it is not a destination of grand monuments. To locate the area, you can read our presentation of the Colline Metallifere.
