Is Pitigliano beautiful?

Yes, Pitigliano It is beautiful, especially when you discover it from afar: the village seems to cling to a high tufa cliff, above green valleys. In the center, the stone alleys, the tightly packed houses and the old Jewish quarter have character. It is not a big museum town: the visit mainly rests on its spectacular setting and the atmosphere of the village, rather than on a succession of monuments.

Plan two to three hours to stroll around the center and take a break; longer if you want to explore the vie cave, ancient paths carved into the tufa around the village. The streets are sometimes steep and paved, so the visit may be less pleasant with a stroller or if you have trouble walking. For parking, there are lots near the center; from the one on via Santa Chiara, allow about a five-minute walk, but spots can be harder to find on weekends and in high season. In short: if you like hilltop villages and rocky landscapes, yes; if you are looking for many indoor visits or a lively atmosphere, Pitigliano may seem rather quiet to you.

My little advice: don't turn the visit into a monument hunt, Pitigliano is best savored without running from one alley to another.
