Where is the ghetto of Pitigliano?

The Jewish ghetto of Pitigliano is located in the historic center, in the southern part of the village, around via Zuccarelli and vicolo Marghera, just below the cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. From piazza della Repubblica, follow via Roma then via Zuccarelli: the entrance is about 100 meters from the square, a few minutes on foot. Look for a small arched opening that leads into vicolo Marghera; it can easily go unnoticed if you don't know where to look.

The district includes the synagogue and the spaces linked to the former life of the Jewish community, today integrated into a tour route with the museum of Jewish culture. The ghetto is therefore not a district delimited by a large gate or an identifiable square: it is discovered in these narrow alleys, around via Zuccarelli and the nearby passages. Plan for comfortable shoes, as the cobblestones and passages can be uneven. If you want to visit the inside of the synagogue and the museum, check the opening times before going: they may vary depending on the season.

The most interesting thing is to slow down in these alleys: here, history is read in the details, not in a grand spectacular setting.
