The simplest way to get to Vulci, in Latium, is to go by car: the archaeological park is located about 120 km from Rome and 80 km from Grosseto. From Rome, take the A12 towards Civitavecchia, then the SS1 Aurelia in the direction of Montalto di Castro; then follow the signs towards Vulci and Canino. From Grosseto, head down the Aurelia towards Montalto di Castro. Allow about 1 h 45 to 2 h from Rome, depending on traffic, and a large free car park awaits you at the entrance to the park.
Without a car, it's considerably less convenient: the train can take you to the station of Montalto di Castro, but the site is about 13 km from there and is not directly served by public transport. You will need to plan a taxi or a rental car for the last leg; check in advance that a taxi will be available for the return trip. Don't count on improvising this part on site, especially in the off-season. Also remember to distinguish the archaeological park from the museum housed in the Castello dell'Abbadia: these are neighbouring visits, but the opening hours and conditions may differ. Check them before you leave.
