How to get to Pitigliano by car from Rome?

To get to Pitigliano from Rome, allow about 150 to 160 km and 2 h 30 to 3 h of driving, depending on traffic. Take theA12 in the direction of Civitavecchia, then theAurelia (SS1) northbound to Montalto di Castro; from there, follow the signs to Pitigliano via the inland roads. The GPS may suggest a slightly different route depending on traffic.

The first part is easy to drive, but the last few kilometres go through secondary roads, sometimes winding: allow some extra time, especially if you drive at night or in bad weather. In summer and on weekends, leaving Rome and the coastal areas can slow down the trip. On arrival, follow the parking signs rather than driving into the old town: some streets are narrow or reserved for authorised access. You will probably have to finish on foot from an outside car park.

Before leaving, check the route and real-time traffic conditions; the announced time can vary significantly during rush hours. To spot the village and organise your visit, you can check our page on Pitigliano.
