How long does the ferry to Giglio Island take?

The ferry enters Porto Santo Stefano and Giglio Porto takes about 1 hour. This is the direct crossing to Giglio Island; the boats are operated by Toremar and Maregiglio. The stated duration corresponds to the time spent at sea, not to waiting at the port or boarding.

If you are traveling with a car, plan for some extra time before departure: you need to arrive early for formalities and boarding, and the wait can get longer when it is crowded, especially in summer. Schedules and the number of departures change according to the season; check those for your chosen day with the operator before leaving, especially if you have a connection or a reservation to keep. To organize your trip, allow at least the hour of sailing, to which you must add the time spent waiting and boarding. Once you have disembarked at Giglio Porto, you are already on the island: the ferry does not go to any other place.

The crossing is already the gateway between Argentario and the island rhythm. Avoid scheduling your first visit down to the minute upon arrival: Giglio is best savored without rushing.
