Are dogs allowed in the Maremma natural park?

No: dogs are not allowed in the Maremma Natural Park, even on a leash. The ban applies to the trails and the protected area, including the beaches located within the park. Exceptions are limited, notably guide dogs for the blind and certain authorized working dogs; so a pet dog cannot accompany you on a hike or to the beach in the park.

If you are traveling with your dog, plan another outing rather than counting on tolerance at the entrance: the regulations specify that domestic animals must not be brought in, as they can disturb the wildlife or transmit diseases. For a swim, look for a beach that allows dogs outside the protected area and check the local rules before going: access may depend on the municipality, the season, or a reserved zone. The Alberese visitor center can also inform you about the access conditions of the day, but will not be able to waive the ban in the park.

Here, the walk is also worth it for the peace left to the wildlife: save it for an outing without your four-legged companion, and plan another escape for him.
