The wine

Pianirossi La Fonte: The Soul of Montecucco Sangiovese

Imagine a wine that whispers the history of Tuscany, a sangiovese that reveals the strength and delicacy of its terroir. The Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG "La Fonte" from Pianirossi is that gem, an authentic expression that transports you directly under the Maremma sun.

Montecucco, land of character and elegance

I'm taking you to the Montecucco region, in the heart of Tuscany, in the province of Grosseto. It is here, on these blessed lands, that the Pianirossi estate passionately cultivates its sangiovese, the king grape variety that makes up this wine. The 2018 vintage that I had the chance to discover is an eloquent testament to this know-how, the fruit of careful vinification with fermentation in steel tanks and maceration on the skins.

From the moment you pour it, this Montecucco Sangiovese "La Fonte" envelops you with its intense ruby red color. On the nose, it's a symphony of red fruits: cherry and wild berries dominate, enhanced by notes of violet. The aging in wooden barrels, mastered with precision for 12 to 18 months, brings subtle touches of tobacco and spices, without ever masking the purity of the fruit. On the palate, it reveals itself vigorous but harmonious, with tannins that are well present but velvety. Its balanced acidity extends the tasting towards a long and persistent finish, where you will perceive a pleasant balsamic aftertaste.

The ideal companion for your Tuscan tables

This wine is a true gastronomic chameleon. I warmly recommend it with red meats, whether grilled or roasted, and it will also elevate a platter of aged cheeses. But don't limit yourself to these classics; it will also surprise you with more structured dishes from Tuscan cuisine. It's the perfect wine for a special occasion, or simply to elevate an evening among friends, adding a touch of refinement to your moments of sharing.
