Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself in the heart of the Maremma, where Tuscany reveals a wilder, more authentic side. This is where this Montecucco Rosso Riserva comes to life, a wine that does not seek to dazzle with artifice, but to charm with its balance and depth. It is the reflection of a terroir that whispers its secrets, far from the spotlight.
We are in Civitella Paganico, at the Tenuta L'Impostino estate, a name that resonates with the history and winemaking tradition of this lesser-known region of Tuscany. Montecucco, this DOC appellation, is a perfect setting for Sangiovese, the king grape variety that makes up 80% of this cuvée. The remaining 20%, a blend of Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot, sculpt its personality, bringing it complexity and roundness.
In your glass, this wine displays an intense ruby color, a promise of beautiful concentration. On the nose, you will discover aromas of ripe plum, touches of eucalyptus and tobacco, complemented by earthy notes that anchor the wine in its origin. On the palate, it reveals itself full and harmonious, with perfectly integrated tannins. The progression is sapid, offering a clean sensation and a lovely persistence. This is a wine that took its time to mature: after a fermentation of 10 to 12 days and a maceration of about 15 days with selected yeasts, it benefited from a spontaneous malolactic fermentation in cement vats. Its aging of at least 18 months in wood and cement, followed by 6 months in the bottle, gives it this maturity and elegance.
This Montecucco Rosso Riserva is a true culinary ally. It will pair wonderfully with fine cured meats, aged cheeses that will converse with its structure, or roast meats. If you like spicy pasta dishes, it will accompany them brilliantly. I recommend serving it slightly chilled to enhance its freshness and structure, between 16 and 18°C. It is a wine that invites conviviality, those moments when you take the time to savor a good dish and a pleasant conversation. It can even wait a few years in the cellar, provided you offer it a stable environment protected from light, reserving beautiful surprises for you.
