Comment on noteThe wine
Today I'm taking you to the heart of a less explored Tuscany, that of Valdarno di Sopra, to introduce you to a gem: the Vigna dell'Impero 2018 from Tenuta Sette Ponti. This wine is not just a drink; it's a story, a terroir that expresses itself with rare authenticity, and an invitation to discovery.
Valdarno di Sopra, this discreet yet full-of-character appellation, is the birthplace of this exceptional Sangiovese. At Tenuta Sette Ponti, tradition meets careful winemaking. This estate cultivates Sangiovese vines that are over 80 years old, a true treasure that gives the wine unique depth and complexity. Every bunch is hand-picked and selected with extreme rigor, grape by grape, to keep only the best.
The vinification of this 2018 is an art. After fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks, maceration on the skins lasts about a month, allowing the wine to extract all the aromatic and coloring richness of the Sangiovese. Aging then continues in large 15 and 25 hectoliter casks, where the wine matures patiently. It completes its maturation with an additional 12 months of refinement in the bottle, unfiltered, to preserve all its authenticity. In your glass, it reveals itself with an intense ruby red color, tending toward garnet, a promise of beautiful concentration. On the nose, you will be charmed by a complex bouquet of wildflowers, red fruits, notes of undergrowth, humus, leather and tobacco. On the palate, its structure is imposing, offering a deep and persistent sip, with evolved tannins that coat the palate and a finish of great length.
This Vigna dell'Impero 2018 is the ideal companion for generous tables. I recommend it with grilled or roasted red meats, where its structure and tannins can fully express themselves. Imagine it alongside a good roast beef, or a game dish. It will also pair wonderfully with aged cheeses, whose character will match its aromatic complexity. It's a wine that calls for conviviality, for sharing a moment of pleasure and discovery. Serve it at a dinner with friends, or to celebrate a special occasion. It will offer you a true dive into the soul of Tuscany, a sensory journey you won't soon forget.
