Which island can you see from Follonica?

From Follonica, , the island you mainly see offshore is the island of Elba, about 20 km as the crow flies. On clear days, its relief stands out fairly clearly on the horizon; with mist or cloud cover, the profile can be pale, or even hard to make out. You are looking towards the eastern part of the island, on the side of Cavo and Rio Marina.

There are also small islets in this area, notably Cerboli, at the entrance to the gulf, but they are far less imposing and can be mistaken for rocks seen from the beach. If you were thinking of a large island clearly visible in front of the town, then it is indeed Elba. To better spot the outlines, find an unobstructed spot on the seafront and choose a day without mist; visibility depends mainly on atmospheric conditions, not on a specific season. And be careful: seeing the island does not mean it is just opposite, a few minutes away by boat, the crossings to Elba depart from Piombino.

Elba gives Follonica a little air of a balcony over the archipelago: the kind of panorama that turns a seaside break into a mini treasure hunt.
