What views does Capalbio offer over the sea?

From the ramparts of Capalbioperched on its hilltop, you can see the Maremma plain stretching out to the sea; on clear days, the panorama also takes in the Argentario promontory and the lagoons of the area. The view is above all that of a rural landscape opening toward the coastline, not that of a village sitting at the water's edge: the town lies about 6 km from the coast, and the sea remains distant from certain narrow lanes.

To see it up close, head to the beaches of Chiarone, Macchiatonda or La Torba, in the territory of Capalbio. The setting there is more that of a long sandy coastline, with dunes and pine groves here and there; toward Ansedonia, the tombolo of the Feniglia leads the eye toward the Argentario. So don't expect rocky coves and turquoise water everywhere: the beach is often more open, and the sea can quickly become deep. The clarity of the views from the village depends on the weather; a clear day helps make out the coast and the hills beyond.

What I like about this panorama is the contrast between the stone lanes and the vast horizon: keep your eyes up, a surprise may appear around a corner.
