What is the sea like in Capalbio?

À Capalbio, the sea is that of a sandy coastline, generally quite easy to access, but the medieval village is not by the water: allow about 12 km and 15 to 20 minutes by car to reach the coast. You will find long sandy beaches, especially around Chiarone and Macchiatonda, with some developed sections and others more natural. Swimming can be pleasant when the sea is calm, but wind and waves quickly change the conditions; check the flags when you arrive. The water's clarity also varies depending on the weather and the crowds, so don't necessarily expect a turquoise sea every day.

In summer, especially in July and August, the most accessible beaches are busier and the parking lots can fill up: coming in the morning makes the day easier. You can choose a beach club, where the price depends on the period and the location, or look for a free area; check on site the accesses and any rules in the natural sectors. June and September are often quieter, with weather that nevertheless remains variable. If you stay in the village, plan on using the car: the beaches are not just around the corner. Don't make Capalbio just a quick swimming stop: the contrast between the village's narrow streets and the sea horizon is what makes the getaway so charming. Keep time for both, otherwise you'll leave with only half a memory!
