What are the best airports for accessing Scansano and Pitigliano?

To get between the two villages, aim mainly Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) and rent a car: it's the simplest choice, especially for Pitigliano. From Fiumicino, allow about 150 km and 2 hours of driving to Pitigliano, and 160 km and a little over 2 hours to Scansano, excluding traffic. The last few kilometres use secondary roads; allow extra time if you arrive after a long flight or during a busy period.

Pisa (PSA) is another option, especially if your itinerary includes northern or central Tuscany: Scansano is about 175 km away, i.e. nearly 2 hours by car, while Pitigliano is farther away, about 215 km. Florence (FLR) can also work depending on flights, but is not the most direct choice for these two destinations. The airport of Grosseto is closer to Scansano, but offers no regular commercial flights worth choosing for a typical trip.

Without a car, the journey becomes noticeably less convenient: you have to combine bus and train, with connections and schedules to check for your dates. To visit the villages and the surrounding area, a rental car therefore remains the most flexible solution; simply compare the price of the flight and the rental between Fiumicino and Pisa.

Between the cheapest ticket and an arrival that leaves you energy for the drive, I would choose the second option: in Maremma, the journey is already part of the change of scenery.
