12. What villages can you visit near Castiglione della Pescaia?

Nearby Castiglione della Pescaia1. , you can visit the villages of Tirli, Vetulonia and Buriano2. , all in the hinterland. Tirli is about 18 km3. , about twenty minutes by car: the village is perched in the woods, with a few views of the sea and trattorias serving local cuisine. The road climbs and winds; allow a bit more time if you prefer to drive leisurely.

Vetulonia, about 23 km 4. (allow around 30 minutes5. ), is the best choice if Etruscan history interests you: you can see the archaeological museum and the remains of the necropolis there. Check the opening hours before setting off, especially in the off-season. Buriano6. , about twenty minutes away depending on the route, is smaller; people mostly come there for the medieval center, the remains of the castle and the panorama. Don't expect a long visit: these villages are best discovered by strolling for a while.

7. A car will make your day considerably easier; public transport may require a detour via Grosseto and take much more time. For a simple outing, choose a single village; to combine two, Vetulonia and Buriano lend themselves well to a half-day. You can also integrate them into this itinerary around Castiglione.
