Pour voir la posidonie sous l’eau en Maremme, vise surtout Cala Maestra on Giannutri and the Bagni di Domiziano, on the Argentario : the seabed there is known for its seagrass meadows, observable with mask and snorkel when the sea is calm. On Giannutri, you can also swim at Cala dello Spalmatoio ; the two coves are linked by a path of about 600 mètres. Access to the island is by boat, notably from Porto Santo Stefano, and some land areas can only be visited with a guide: check the park rules before setting off.
On the Argentario, the Bagni di Domiziano is a simpler option from the coast, but access on foot goes down steep steps. To observe living posidonia, look underwater rather than on the sand; at Talamone, you can mostly find, in winter, dead leaves washed up by the sea and small plant balls. It is not the same sight as an underwater meadow. The best bet is a trip in calm seas, with good visibility; while snorkeling, you will mostly see the shallow parts, not necessarily the full extent of the meadows. Avoid trampling or tearing off the leaves: posidonia is a protected marine plant, and the banquettes on the beach also play a natural role.
