At Civitella Paganico, visit especially Civitella Marittima and Paganico, two villages that each give a different idea of the territory. The first, perched among olive trees and cypresses, lends itself to a quiet stroll through the alleys and offers beautiful views over the hills. In Paganico, follow the ancient gates and the remains of the ramparts up to the church San Michele Arcangelo : its apse preserves frescoes painted in 1368. Allow about one hour per village, more if you stop often.
A few minutes' drive from Civitella Marittima, the Badia di San Lorenzo al Lanzo, also called Badia Ardenghesca, is worth the detour for its Romanesque architecture; however, check its accessibility before setting off, as it is not a developed site with regular visiting hours. The Bagni di Petriolo, on the banks of the Farma stream, combine remains of fortified thermal baths and hot springs: the natural pools are a rustic option, not a spa experience, and access conditions may vary.
Good to know: Civitella Paganico is a municipality made up of several hamlets, and Civitella Marittima and Paganico are about 9 km apart ; a car makes visiting easier. If you come in autumn, check the dates of the Festa del Bucounto, dedicated to local flavours.
