What excursions to do in Pitigliano?

In Pitigliano, combine a visit to the historic center and the old Jewish quarter with a walk through the vie cave, then keep half a day for Sovana or Sorano. In the village, allow time to wander through the alleys and see the synagogue and the spaces related to the Jewish community; check the opening hours before going, as access may vary depending on the season.

For hiking, you can follow the paths carved into the tuff around Pitigliano: the local loop of the vie cave is a few kilometers long and can take up to 3 hours. If you want to reach Sovana on foot via these paths, allow about 10 km and 4 hours ; it is not a flat walk, so bring good shoes and water. By car, Sovana is about 7 km away : visit the village and the Etruscan necropolis, where the tombs are discovered in the middle of the woods.

Sorano, with its alleys and its cave dwellings, lends itself well to another excursion. If you prefer to swim, the Cascate del Mulino in Saturnia are about 25 km from Pitigliano, or around 30 to 40 minutes by car. The pools can be very crowded in summer and on weekends; leave early, and don't count on public transport to easily combine these visits.
