What is the best time to go to the island of Giglio?

The best time to go to Giglio Island, c’est June or September : you enjoy the sun and swimming without suffering as much from the crowds and heat of midsummer. In June, the days are generally warm, but the sea can still seem cool early in the month. In September, the water often remains pleasant after the summer, while the beaches and villages return to a calmer rhythm. It is also a good time to walk the trails, without the intense heat of July and August.

July and August work if your priority is the beach and a lively atmosphere, but expect larger crowds, especially around the August 15, and book accommodation and the crossing in advance. Conversely, in May or October, you can find a quieter island, but the weather is less predictable and some seasonal services may be reduced or closed. The ferries connect Porto Santo Stefano à Giglio Porto all year round; the crossing takes about 1 hour, with more departures in summer. Giglio lends itself well to unstructured days: keep some leeway to choose your getaway according to the mood of the moment. Wanting to check everything off would almost mean missing out on its charm.
