Quali sono le feste a Massa Marittima?

À Massa Marittima, the main traditional events are the Balestro del Girifalco, la fête de San Cerbone et, en été, Lirica in Piazza. If you are there on those days, the feast of San Cerbone falls on 10 October 2026 : the religious programme runs from 9 to 10 October, with a procession of the authorities to the cathedral on Saturday morning, mass at 11 h and the offering of the candle and the census by the Terzieri at 17 h. The historical events may vary from one edition to another: check the local programme before travelling.

The Balestro is a crossbow shooting competition between the three historic districts, preceded by a medieval parade and flag-throwing displays. It generally takes place on the fourth Sunday of May and the 14 août, on the main square; the stands may be chargeable and tickets must be booked or checked with the tourist office. Another summer event, Lirica in Piazza, presents open-air operas on Piazza Garibaldi: in 2026, the performances took place from 3 au 5 août, at 21 h 15, with tickets from €30. The dates and prices change from one year to the next, so it is best to check the edition corresponding to your stay.

The great contrast between the ardour of the Balestro and the elegance of Lirica in Piazza is the whole charm of Massa Marittima: two atmospheres, one single setting that changes face.
