Where is the Fortezza Orsini in relation to the Masso Leopoldino?

The Fortezza Orsini is located to the southeast of the Masso Leopoldinoin Sorano: the two fortifications occupy opposite sides of the historic center. They are separated by about 170 meters as the crow flies, so you can go from one to the other on foot without getting back in the car.

Allow a few minutes of walking through the alleys of the village; depending on the route chosen, plan for about 5 to 10 minutes. From the fortress, head northwest, crossing the center up to the Masso Leopoldino, near the Porta dei Merli. The actual distance is a bit longer than 170 meters, as the streets do not follow a straight line.

A note about access: Sorano is built on a steep hillside, and the route includes paved alleys, slopes and sometimes steps. It is therefore not a route suitable for all levels of mobility; with a stroller or difficulty walking, the trip can be arduous. The Masso Leopoldino is reached on foot from the village, rather than going directly from one monument to the other by car.

In Sorano, going from one fortification to the other has a little treasure-hunt feel to it: the alleys know very well how to make you lift your head along the way!
