Where to park in Pitigliano or Grosseto to avoid entering the ZTL?

À Pitigliano, 1. , park at the parcheggio de Piazza Nenni : it is paid and a few minutes' walk from the historic center, without having to enter the ZTL. To avoid paying, try the free spots near Piazza Dante Alighieri or the Zuccarelli school, but they are fewer and fill up quickly on weekends and in high season. From Via Santa Chiara, there are also spots, free or paid, about 5 minutes on foot from the village. Always check the signs and road markings: some spots near the center are reserved or regulated.

À Grosseto, aim for the parking spots of Viale Ximenes, outside the walls, near Porta Corsica : you reach the centre on foot and avoid going under the ZTL archway. Blue spaces are paid; check the hours and rates displayed on the parking meter. The historic centre is monitored by camera, so don't blindly follow the GPS if it tells you to go through the gate. In both towns, if your accommodation is in a ZTL, ask it before arriving whether it can register your plate or tell you about an authorized access: don't assume that a booking automatically gives you the right to enter.

In Pitigliano, it's better to give up the spot «right in front»: the village is much better discovered on foot than behind the wheel. In Grosseto, the ramparts will serve as your landmark to calmly find your way back to the heart of the town.
