Yes, the Forte Stella can be visited: you can enter the fortress and walk along the walkways along the ramparts of the ramparts. The site also often hosts contemporary art exhibitions. Admission is modest, on the order of a few euros, and opening hours vary by season: check with the tourist office before you climb.
The fort owes its name to its star. It was built in the 16th century, when the Spanish controlled the Argentario and the nearby coast, in what was known as the State of the Presidi. It overlooks Porto Ercole from a promontory to the west of the village, and the view stretches across the entire southern coast, all the way to Cape Linaro near Civitavecchia. Not all of Porto Ercole's other forts are open: the Forte Filippo, for example, is private property.
The climb from the port is steep: most visitors drive, by the road that winds up above the village, and parking is limited. If you go on foot, set out early in summer and bring water. A good plan: combine your visit with sunset, when the light falls over the sea. The town's fortresses are presented on the sheet on the fortresses of Porto Ercole.
