To avoid unpleasant surprises on theArgentario, don't choose a beach based solely on a photo and check access, parking and services before setting off. Cala del Gesso, for example, requires a walk of about 20 to 25 minutes on a path with some elevation; the beach is pebbly and has no beach establishment. In the height of summer, arrive early, bring water and good shoes — otherwise, choose a beach that's easier to access.
Also look at the signs before parking: the municipal rates published for 2025 went up to €3 per hour or €24 per day in the central zone, and they can change. In summer, ZTL restrict access to certain streets in Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole, especially in the evening; don't blindly follow your GPS. For lunch, ask for the cover charge and check what's included before ordering, especially on the seafront. Finally, avoid August weekends if possible: traffic, scarce parking spots and crowded boat ramps can quickly ruin the day.
