Is Monte Argentario beautiful?

Yes, Monte Argentario is beautiful, especially if you like rugged coastlines, hills covered in maquis, and sea views. It's not a succession of large, easily accessible beaches: the charm lies more in the rocky coves, the scenic roads, and the two harbors, Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole. You can also reach the sandy beaches of Feniglia and Giannella, on the strips of land connecting the promontory to the mainland.

The catch is that the prettiest coves are often less convenient than they appear: access on foot, sometimes steep terrain, pebbles rather than sand, and little shade. In the height of summer, the roads and parking can be a hassle; off-season, the place is quieter, but some beach activities slow down. A car really helps with exploring, even though buses serve the villages. TheOrbetello-Monte Argentario is located about 9 km from Porto Ercole and 14 km from Porto Santo Stefano. In short, yes for the landscapes and walks; less so if you're mainly looking for a long sandy beach with easy access.

Don't plan every stop down to the last detail: at Monte Argentario, leave some room for unplanned breaks. It's a place best savored at your own pace rather than by checking off stops.
