Is Pitigliano near the sea?

No, Pitigliano is not located near the sea: it is an inland village, perched in the lands of the Maremma. To reach a beach on the Tyrrhenian coast, allow about 50 to 60 km and, in general, around an hour's drive, depending on the chosen beach and traffic. The beaches of the Feniglia, near Orbetello, or the area of Capalbio are options for a day trip. You can locate the village and prepare your visit with my article on Pitigliano, the tuff city.

So it can be done, but Pitigliano is not a seaside base: going to the sea and returning the same day is realistic, while an improvised getaway without a car is much less so. Public transport requires more planning and can lengthen the journey; check the schedules if you plan to do without a car. In summer, also expect the road and parking near the beaches to take more time. If your main goal is to enjoy the coastline, it is better to stay closer to the coast and keep Pitigliano for a separate visit. On the other hand, to combine an inland village and a beach day, the distance remains reasonable.

The contrast between the tufa alleyways and a day with your feet in the sand is the little luxury of a stay in the Maremma — provided you don't try to cram everything in at a run.
