In which region is Porto Ercole located?

Porto Ercole is located in Tuscany, in the province of Grosseto, in the south of the region, on the peninsula of Monte Argentario. It is part of the Tuscan Maremma, often called the Maremma of Grosseto in this area. Administratively, it is not an independent municipality: the village belongs to the municipality of Monte Argentario.

On the coast, Porto Ercole occupies the south-eastern slope of the promontory, facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. The other main village of the municipality, Porto Santo Stefano, is located on the other side of Monte Argentario. Do not confuse it with Orbetello : this neighboring town is on the lagoon and belongs to a separate municipality. If you want to locate the village more precisely before preparing your itinerary, here is the page dedicated to Porto Ercole.

For a getaway in the area, I would keep Porto Ercole as a full-fledged stop rather than just a name on the map: the kind of place that deserves to be given time.
