Where is Monte Argentario located?

The Monte Argentario is located in the south of the Tuscany, in Maremma, in the province of Grosseto, on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is a promontory located about 35 km south of Grosseto, facing the island of Giglio. Despite its name, it is not just a summit: "Monte Argentario" also refers to the peninsula and the municipality that occupies this stretch of coast.

The promontory is connected to the mainland by two sandy strips of land, the tombolos of Giannella and Feniglia, which frame the lagoon ofOrbetello. The town of Orbetello is set on a narrow tongue of land in the middle of the lagoon; a causeway allows you to reach the Argentario by car. The two main villages are Porto Santo Stefano, au nord, et Porto Ercole, to the south. If you are coming from inland Tuscany, look for Orbetello first: it is the convenient gateway to access the peninsula.

A little wild boar tip: do not treat Orbetello as a mere airlock, the passage to the Argentario is already part of the charm of the journey.
