The wine
Imagine yourself in the heart of Tuscany, where the sea breeze meets the hills. This Baia al Vento 2009 is an invitation to that sensory journey, an authentic expression of an exceptional terroir. It reveals a complexity and elegance that will leave a lasting impression on you.
The Tenuta Campo al Mare, owned by the Folonari family, is nestled in the prestigious Bolgheri appellation, in Castagneto Carducci. This corner of Tuscany, swept by sea winds, offers an ideal microclimate for the flourishing of Bordeaux grape varieties. This 2009 vintage is the result of a meticulous blend: 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, choices that honor the Bolgheri tradition. The maceration lasts about 30 days at 28°C, a method that gently extracts the richness of the grapes.
In your glass, this Bolgheri Superiore DOC displays a deep, intense color. On the nose, you will be charmed by aromas of ripe plum and juicy woodland fruits, enhanced by spicy notes and a touch of tobacco and rosemary. It is a complex and inviting bouquet. On the palate, it unfolds a medium-to-full-bodied structure, with present yet balanced tannins, which testify to its aging potential. You will perceive a beautiful lingering finish, a sign of careful vinification and masterful aging. It aged for 16 to 18 months in barriques, then 12 months in bottle, which allowed it to reach progressive maturity and beautiful harmony.
To fully appreciate this Baia al Vento 2009, I recommend a light decanting so that it releases all its aromas after these years in the bottle. Serve it at an ideal temperature of 16-18 °C. It will be the perfect companion to an emblematic dish of the region, such as "Cinghiale in umido con finferli e mirtilli", a wild boar stewed with chanterelles and blueberries. It will also pair wonderfully with roasted meats, flavorful stews or semi-hard cheeses. This wine is a true celebration of Tuscan flavors, an invitation to conviviality and sharing.
