Where exactly is the island of Giglio located?

The’Isola del Giglio is located in Tuscany, in the province of Grosseto, south of the Tuscan archipelago, in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is located about 15 km west of the Monte Argentario promontory, facing the coast of the Maremma. It is also located south of the island of Elba and north of Giannutri.

To get there from the mainland, the usual starting point is Porto Santo Stefano, on Monte Argentario: the ferries arrive at Giglio Porto, on the east coast of the island. The crossing takes about an hour. So you must first reach Porto Santo Stefano by road, then take the boat; the island is not connected to the mainland by a bridge. Once there, the three main villages are Giglio Porto, Giglio Castello, perched inland, and Campese, on the west coast. In practice, if you look at a map of Tuscany, look for the island just off the Maremma, facing the Argentario.

Giglio is not an escape to squeeze in between two appointments: give it a real day, the journey itself is already part of the change of scenery.
