What activities and visits to suggest in Tuscania?

À Tuscania, plan half a day to visit the two Romanesque basilicas, stroll through the medieval center and take a break at the park of the Torre di Lavello. Start with Santa Maria Maggiore, then climb up to San Pietro : the two churches are located a few hundred meters from each other, a little away from the heart of the village. Their opening hours may vary, so check that they will be open on the day of your visit. From the tower park, you have a beautiful view of the basilicas and the countryside; it's a short walk, not a hike.

In the center, take the time to stop by the piazza Bastianini, the fountain of the Seven Cannelle and the alleys lined with tuff houses. Allow about 18. 2 to 3 hours for the village and the churches, more if you stop often. If Etruscan archaeology interests you, add the Museo archeologico nazionale, housed in the former convent of Santa Maria del Riposo: the full price indicated is 5 €, and the museum is generally closed on Mondays. As hours and prices may change, check them before leaving. For a more relaxed visit, plan a full day and have lunch in the village; otherwise, Tuscania can easily be discovered in a few hours.

In Tuscania, the trap would be to rush from one monument to another: let the alleys make the connection, that's where the village reveals its most endearing rhythm.
