If I had to choose one, I would say the road from Val d'Orcia, between San Quirico d'Orcia, Pienza and Montepulciano, notably taking the SP146. The rolling hills and isolated farms go by, but the landscape is not an uninterrupted succession of cypresses: the most famous alignments are sometimes on small secondary roads, or even private paths.
Between San Quirico and Montepulciano, allow about 25 km and 40 to 50 minutes of driving without stopping. In practice, plan on half a day instead to make a few stops and visit Pienza; you can also add Bagno Vignoni. The spring and the beginning of theautumn are pleasant for driving and stopping, while in summer the heat and the crowds can make the outing less peaceful. The roads are generally passable, but sometimes remain narrow: slow down in the curves and watch out for tractors. In the villages, park in the indicated parking lots and check the limited traffic zone signs before entering the center. I would not choose this route to go fast: its appeal is taking your time.
